SoLux lamps and bulbs with a range of color temperatures are shown in the photo, and will be used during this workshop to illuminate prints and to show the visual differences one may encounter when displaying art in galleries, homes and other locations.

In this full-day lecture-style workshop and print session, award-winning author, photographer and consultant Andrew Darlow will share many color management, Photoshop, Lightroom and inkjet printing tips and techniques while prepping and printing at least one fine-art inkjet print from your supplied digital file (photo, painting, etc.) using Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.

Throughout the workshop, these and other topics will be covered:

• An overview of color management, including suggested color management hardware and software;
• How to produce, install and use custom printer profiles;
• Tips for selecting inkjet papers and canvas, and specific paper suggestions for your type of work;
• Demonstration of a step-by-step printing workflow using Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom (Mac OSX will be used, but Windows-specific information will also be discussed for those who use Windows XP or Windows Vista);
• Specific Photoshop tips and actions to help optimize print quality, including sharpening and upsizing tips (links to free actions will also be provided);
• How to make darkroom-quality black and white prints from color or black and white orignial files;
• Presentation materials will be discussed and demonstrated, including boxes, print sleeves, cases, etc.

The 13-inch-wide Epson Styus Color R2880 and 13-inch-wide HP Designjet Pro B9180 or Designjet Pro B8850 will be used during the workshop, and attendees may choose from a selection of fine art gloss, semi-gloss and matte papers on which to have their prints made, including:

Comments from a recent attendee at a similar workshop with Andrew Darlow:

"Thanks Andrew! The workshop was fantastic. I think your teaching skills, as well as your knowledge, are truly remarkable. To compliment that, in a setting like Xact Studios, a workshop becomes an incredible event. I'd recommend the workshop to those who want to uplift their printing skills as well as their knowledge of Photoshop and color management."

-Ed Livernoche, Professional Photographer

Comments from two other recent workshop attendees:

"Our goal was to learn to print better than we currently could and our goals were more than met. Mary had little experience while I could print fairly well. Andrew's presentations were clear, concise and free of "jargon" that you sometime run into at workshops.

He answered all questions in a way that was clearly understood and made sure that you did understand. The hands-on portion was well done and we both came away with a knowledge that we would be able to greatly improve our printing ability. We highly recommend his programs!"

-Tom and Mary Keifer
